DESTIN – OffLeaseOnly/Boats Direct USA owner Eileen Fischer won last weekend during the 23rd Annual Emerald Coast Poker Run and then donated every penny of her winnings to children’s charities.

It was the second year in a row Eileen and Mark Fischer presented the Emerald Coast Foundation with a hefty cash donation during the popular event on Florida’s northwest coast. This year’s Poker Run was August 19-23.

The Fischers presented the Emerald Coast Foundation with $5,000 in winnings. The Emerald Coast Foundation supports children’s charities and youth organizations in Okaloosa County. To date, the Emerald Coast Poker Run events have raised more than $2 million for charity.  This year’s Poker Run raised about $160,000, said Stu Jones, president of the Florida Powerboat Club (FPC), which sponsored the event.

Mark and Eileen Fischer are powerboaters, anglers, car buffs and longtime supporters of community charities, especially those that benefit children.

The popular Poker Run included a variety of activities, including a Ladies Night Luau, a captains’ party, a bikini contest, a “parti gras” parade, a silent auction and of course, the Poker Run itself.

“We had tons of fun,” said Eileen Fischer, who traveled to Destin with her husband aboard their stunning 52-foot Nortech, the “Where is Eileen Now?”

“According to Jones, 155 boats registered for the event, with registrants hailing from across Florida. as well as Oklahoma, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Georgia.

“”The Florida Panhandle is a highly-desirable destination for the southern states. They are willing to drive eight to 10 hours for a Poker Run,” Jones said. The FPC sponsored the event in conjuction with the Emerald Coast Foundation. The recent event marked the FPC’s 17th year of involvement.

“”It’s a great event because it’s not just a two-day Poker Run,” Jones said. “We have a ‘Parti Gras’ parade as an opening event so people can see all our boats.  There are 5,000 people in attendance.”

“”One of the lures of the Emerald Coast Poker Run is the unique geography of the course.”

“It’s all inshore waters. There are miles and miles of sandy beaches and anchorage areas,” Jones said. The Poker Run Course, from Destin to Pensacola and back is about 125 miles, he said.

“And then there was the fun of playing poker with changes to win any of $100K in prizes, including a pickup truck and a motorcycle. Among the card sharks was Eileen Fischer, who seems to win time and time again.

“Here’s how Eileen Fischer described how she won big this time:

“With her nine cards, Mrs. Fischer got to play nine hands for a chance to win a 2015 Ford F-150. There were two ways to win – with the lowest hand or the highest hand. She won a chance to win the truck with the lowest hand out of 1,000 participants! Her winning numbers:12346.

Mrs. Fischer won a second chance to win the truck when organizers called out a lucky ticket and it happened to be hers!

Fischer sold one ticket for $5,000 and then played (and lost) with the other ticket. She and Mark Fischer subsequently donated the entire $5,000 to the Emerald Coast Foundation.

“I am so lucky,” laughed Eileen Fischer, who won even more money at last year’s event and also donated it all.
