Keys resident Jorge Rodriguez knows his sleek royal blue Boats Direct USA Epic Sport Console is a standout because it attracts attention wherever it goes:  The bay boat is flashy, edgy, smooth-running and incredibly affordable.

The Keys resident wanted to show off his boat and find a way to network with other Epic owners. He found his solution on Facebook by creating an Epic Boats in the Florida Keys Facebook fan page so Epic Boat owners could easily meet.

The Epic Boat  page is fast becoming a virtual meeting place for Epic boat owners in the Keys. Boaters are posting pictures and videos of their cool Epic Boats and using the Facebook fan page as a way to organize boat outings and network with other Epic owners.

“I put the page together so we can all connect,” said Jorge Rodriguez, a boat mechanic who lives in Big Coppitt Key with his wife and young son.  “We make weekend plans and announce where we are going. There are least 10 Epics in Key West that are out there. Little by little you see them more and more and you see all the different colors.”

Rodriguez’ Epic Boat Facebook page includes the following explanation:

(Made this page for other Epic boat owners in the FL Keys. Just post where your destinations are for the weekend. And maybe get a group of Epics together)

In the small community that is Key West, everyone knows Rodriguez is the owner of the royal blue Epic, which turns heads every time he takes it out!

One of Rodriguez’ first posts was an idyllic photo of his gorgeous blue Epic anchored in crystalline aqua waters, with two other Epic Boats in the background. Epic Boats admired the photo so much the boat manufacturer displayed it on the official Epic Boat website.

Rodriguez, who owns an Epic Sport Console 22SC, uses his boat for everything and enjoys meeting up with other Epic boat owners so they can swap ideas, plan boating outings and compare boats.

The FB fan page includes videos, pictures of family outings and photos of Rodriguez’ boat while it was under construction. Rodriguez got the under-construction pictures from Epic during the manufacturing process by calling up and asking.

“Epic definitely kept the anxiety down of waiting 6 weeks for the boat. The pictures they would send me were always great,” Rodriquez wrote in a FB post.

Rodriquez and his family use their boat for just about everything.

“I go from fishing offshore to going out the beach and sand bars with the family,” Rodriquez said. And because the boat is wide and rides dry, it is perfect for Rodriquez’ 3-year-old son.

“He probably enjoys it more than I do,” Rodriguez chuckled.

Rodriquez posted a few pictures of his young son perched happily on the boat’s deck, while anchored. The picture prompted another boater to write a post asking if Rodriquez felt his son was safe on the boat wearing a lifejacket because of his young age.

The FB page became a discussion ground for child safety and boating!

“Just a little nervous since there’s not tall walls around him like our old boat,” the other boater wrote.

Rodriguez replied,”My family loves it. Does everything we need it to do.” He suggested using a marine beanbag for children while riding in water that is rough or bumpy.

Rodriguez said he ultimately chose Epic because the price was right, the construction was superb and the boat rode extremely well.

He custom-ordered his boat and loved how Epic Boats kept in close touch with him updating him on the progress as it was being built.

“They actually call you and give you updates on your boat. They tell you that it just got painted, it just came out of the mold,” Rodriguez said. “I was super anxious about it. It is absolutely unique.”

“I have a lot of fun with it,” Rodriguez said of his boat.

Boats Direct USA sales manager David Pease said Epic Boats are popular because of price, quality and their fun, edgy looks.

“They are all very exotic with custom horsepower and custom rigging,” Pease said. “These guys are all into having the fastest boat – they are all trying to one up each other.”

Epic Bay Boats range in price from $33,999 up to more than $50,000, depending on what features are included, Pease said.

“These boats are affordable. The way they are made, with a vacuum-bagged hull and a resin-infused process is something you don’t normally see in boats in this price range,” Pease said. “They are lighter, stronger, faster and it’s a very cool-looking design. The boats run great and our customers love it!”

“It’s a dry ride, it rides smooth,” Kocis said, noting that his boat can travel up to 64 mph. He took friend and co-worker Benny Lowe out for a ride and Lowe fell in love with the Epic brand as well. Lowe immediately bought his own Epic in an eye-popping lime green hue.

Kocis, the father of a 2-year-old boy, said the wide deck makes his Epic a perfect fit for his family

“The boat is easy to dive off of, fish off of, has a lot of storage and lot of deck space to walk around,”Kocis said. “I can load up all my dive gear on one side and all (my son’s)  toys on the other.”

Kocis loved the reasonable price and the huge assortment of storage compartments.

Lowe also loves his Epic for similar reasons.

Lowe’s boat is outfitted with a 300 hp Mercury Verado engine, the largest engine he could put on the 22-foot-long boat.

“It’s superwide, almost nine feet, and it’s dry,” said Lowe, a father of three children, ages 17, 13 and 10. The boat is perfect for family outings, he said.

“I love it. It is awesome. Mostly we go hang out at different venues in Key West.  We usually all end up hanging out together in the same place. Epic Boats have been around for a few years but they haven’t been as prevalent as it is now in the Keys,” Lowe said.

His lime green Epic is definitely a source of curiosity.

“Everybody wants to take a look at it. They want to look at all the compartments because everything is concealed. It’s got plenty of storage, two live wells, spacious center consoles and a rocket launcher bench seat,” Lowe said.

“We love it,” he added.
